The fitness and nutrition life chose me

I was 15 at the time. It started slowly at first with a bit of back pain and some red patches on my skin. I didn’t think much of it because I was a multi sport athlete and I figured it was excess wear and tear on my body without proper recovery. Until one morning I woke up and my spine and right elbow were completely immobile. I could hardly get out of bed.

After seeing a series of doctors I was finally told that I have a chronic autoimmune condition called Psoriatic Arthritis. They game me medication and soon after my symptoms were mostly gone. I went about my life doing things a 15 year old should. Shortly after, however, I started to feel fatigued constantly and my my appetite went down. I was getting sick all the time and when I wasn’t sick I still had this prevailing jaded feeling. I started to research the medication I was taking and realized that I had been taking low doses of chemo therapy to fight off my over active immune system. It’s at this point I started to realize the implications of what had happened months before. This would be a war I would have to fight for the rest of my life. I decided to make it my mission to manage my condition in a more holistic way with as minimal drugs as possible.

Over the last 12 years I have had my fair share of ups and downs. I have tried countless different strategies including diets, exercise, supplements, and many more holistic approaches. Many didn’t work for me and some I have been doing for years. This blog is for me to talk about those strategies as is relates not only to those that might be sick but to those that are looking to better balance their health. I have been at war with this condition for 12 years and for the first time I can say I’m winning that war.
